Arothe, the former Baroda coach, resigned a week ago just after five months after been appointed as coach of Indian women’s team. The BCCI has since opened the position the head coach of Indian women’s team as they are scheduled to have a camp from July 25 to August 3 in Bangalore, and Powar has been asked to oversee the camp.

One of the sources of the Indian Express in the BCCI said, “Powar had been asked to oversee the camp as there is no head coach with the women’s team. He will be involved in planning the camp with Biju George, the assistant coach. The BCCI has already invited applications for women’s team coach role but it will take time. The new coach can only take on the role next month.”

Powar has recently missed the chance of coaching the Mumbai Ranji team as he was pipped to the post by former Mumbai wicketkeeper-batsman Vinayak Samant. Meanwhile, the BCCI in its invitation for application has kept criteria where the coach has to be below 55 years of age and the last date of submission for application will be July 20.

In a repeat of the Virat Kohli-Anil Kumble saga, Arothe decided to resign from his position as some of the senior cricketers told the Committee of Administrators (CoA) that they weren’t pleased with the training techniques of Arothe. It was another case of the fallout between the coach and the senior players.

While Arothe said that he quit due to personal reasons, he was not too pleased with the way the CoA handled the whole affair. He said,  “There are no hard feelings between the players and myself and any other support staff. I’m quitting due to a personal reason. I wish the girls well in the forthcoming series and in the World Cup.”
