Ranveer Singh Reveals Sachin Tendulkar Doubted He Can Imitate Kapil Dev

Legendary Indian cricketer, Kapil Dev was known for being a nightmare to both opposition batters and bowlers during his international career. Apart from that was also an aggressive batter and that resulted in him being termed as one of the finest all-rounders. Kapil Dev’s bowling action was quite unique as he used to take a high jump at the crease and his quick arm action was enough to unsettle the opposition batters.

When portraying Kapil Dev in the upcoming movie 83, Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh found it difficult to imitate the legendary India all-rounder’s bowling action. Speaking to India Today Consulting Editor, Rajdeep Sardesai, on the special show ‘Stars of 83’ on Wednesday, Ranveer Singh said he practiced 4 hours a day for close to 7 months and then he managed to nail the legend’s bowling action.

Ranveer Singh revealed that he had met batting great Sachin Tendulkar during the shoot of the film in England in 2019 and the legendary batter had shed light on the uniqueness of Kapil’s bowling action.

Ranveer Singh elaborated “It was the bowling action (difficult to mimic). For 7 months, I was bowling 4 hours a day. For a number of weeks, I was not able to make any headway. He has this unique bio-mechanics. He can only bowl the way he bowls. You name it, Sachin Tendulkar, Hardik Pandya… whoever I met is telling me ‘How are you going to do the action?’.

He further added, “We were at Lord’s, It rained out, Kabir sir and myself met Sachin Tendulkar. He told me ‘Yeah, you are playing the 83 film, you are playing Kapil Dev, too good. You are going to bowl like him. Oh… accha’. I was being given a heads up from everybody that this is not going to be easy. And it wasn’t for many months.”

Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 is based on the story of the historic triumph of Team India  to in the World Cup 1983. India rallied against odds to win the World Cup that kick started a new era in Indian cricket.
