Ranked number T20I bowler in the world, Gujarat Titans (GT) stand-in skipper, Rashid Khan became the first bowler in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 to claim a hat-trick. Against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the leg-spinner scalped three wickets on three successive deliveries during the 17th over to achieve this feat and put his team in a commanding position against the traveling KKR.
On the first ball, Rashid Khan got the prized wicket of the most-destructive hitter Andre Russell as he edged one to the keeper off his thigh pads. While the umpire didnβt give him out first, Rashid and Saha were convinced and decided to take the DRS which eventually went in their favor.

On the next delivery, Rashid Khan dismissed Sunil Narine, who smashed it straight to the deep-mid-wicket area. Then Shardul Thakur came out to bat, who was the player of the match for KKR in their previous group game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Rashid, who looked confident, bowled a wrong-un and trapped the right-handed Shardul, who was quite plumb in front. As expected, Shardul Thakur had no hesitation in taking the DRS, but that was a waste of effort as Hawkeye showed the ball was hitting the middle.

With that, the crowd went berserk as Rashid completed his first hat trick for Gujarat Titans. Despite the brilliant effort from Rashid Khan, Kolkata clinched victory from the jaws of defeat in Ahmedabad on Sunday evening with Rinku Singh smashing five sixes off Yash Dayal in the last over securing an improbable triumph.Β
