After being asked to bat first by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Gujarat Titans (GT) managed to reach a humongous score of 227-2 in their quota of 20 overs in the 51st match of IPL 2023 in Ahmedabad. The visiting openers, Kyle Mayers and Quinton de Kock made sure that they make the most of the power-play overs by scoring 72 runs without losing a wicket.

Kyle Mayers was seen striking the ball cleanly. Earlier in the match, it was the domination of GT’s openers Wriddhiman Saha & Shubman Gill. Saha looked in complete control as he struck a destructive knock of 81 runs in 43 balls with the help of 10 fours and 4 sixes.

Shubman Gill was seen playing the role of anchor but during the last 10 overs, he took on LSG’s bowling unit and scored an unbeaten knock of 94 runs in 51 balls with the help of 7 huge sixes and 2 fours. LSG’s skipper Krunal Pandya looked clueless about the sheer hitting ability of Saha and Gill.

Perhaps, LSG missed the services of the right-arm fast bowler, Naveen-ul-Haq (*rested) who could have foxed the batters with his variations.

At the end of 8 overs, LSG was standing at 88-0. Mohit Sharma was introduced into the attack for the 9th over, on the second delivery Mohit Sharma delivered a slower short ball delivery and made Kyle Mayers reach for it, Mayers played the hook shot but couldn’t connect properly. Rashid Khan who was at the deep square leg ran 26 meters and took a stunning catch and ended the innings of Kyle Myers.

This wicket could change things for the hosts as Kyle Mayers was looking ominous and could have inflicted a lot of damage. Kyle Mayers was dismissed after scoring 48 runs in 32 balls and struck 7 fours and 2 sixes. LSG’s score at 8.2 overs was 88-1.

LSG’s fans would be hoping that Deepak Hooda plays an attacking brand of cricket as the required run rate is close to 13 runs. All eyes would be on Quinton de Kock as the batter needs to bat deep and gets a massive score in this crunch match.

The take sent everyone into awe including one of the elite batters in world cricket, Virat Kohli, who lauded the Afghan spinner for his fielding effort by uploading a story labeling it as one of the best ever.
