The Shpageeza Cricket League is Afghanistan’s premiere domestic T20 competition in which the break-through young cricketers prove their worth at the national level. Rashid Khan, the captain of both the national team and the Speen Ghar Tigers, is not only a vital figure leading his team, but also contributing immense efforts towards the global projection of Afghan cricket.

His performances have been heavy and have justified his very selection, which has inspired the young players to no end and further cemented Afghanistan’s rising reputation in world cricket. The scoreboard signalled a daunting 20/5 for the chasing Tigers, who are meanwhile fighting an uphill battle for a daunting 167-run target set by the Afghans early in the game, which was marred by rain, at the Kabul International Stadium.

However, it was soon after that Rashid Khan, with his all-round skills, in particular the power-hitting skills, let a spree of sixes out of his thunderous blade to the full delight of the spectators. The Afghan showcased real power hitting en route to the fastest fifty of the competition. Only 26 balls did Rashid consume to score 53 runs at a whopping 203.84 strike rate, studded with three fours and six towering over-the-fence sixes.

But the most eye-catching features of that innings were the variety of new-fangled shots he whisked out: the so-called ‘no-look’ sixes, for instance, and even a ridiculous attempt at the famous helicopter shot. Buttressing Ikram Ali Khil, Rashid raised a fighting 73-run stand to briefly ignite the Tigers’ challenge. He was harsh at every bowler he came across in the middle, best exemplified by him hitting three sixes from four deliveries of Mohammad Gul Alizai in an over before being taken out of the attack in the ninth over.
