#5 Rohit Sharma – 7/10

Rohit Sharma

There is no denying the fact that Rohit Sharma is one of the best captains when it comes to IPl, but in the 14th edition, he was not at his best for Mumbai Indians. However, there were some notable brilliant tactics were there in the display like adjusting to the alien Chennai conditions, using Rahul Chahar in the middle overs. He immaculately rotated the bowlers at his disposal.

Even with the bat, Rohit Sharma led from the front to show how batsmen should combat the sticky Chepauk wicket. He was let down by his players in the first half of the season, especially batsmen. However, the last wins were proof Rohit can mastermind victories when he has the players to back him up.

#4 Sanju Samson – 7/10

Despite the fact that Sanju Samson only managed to pull off three wins for Rajasthan Royals, he impressed one and all with his on-field captaincy. He suffered losses of RR’s  overseas contingent and didn’t have any prominent Indian stars, still, Samson managed to regroup the team and win games. Even in his batting front, Smason played some mature knocks in the last couple of games. As any first-time captain would do, he made mistakes, but he was learning from them more often than not. He led the team from the front, like in the first game he backed himself to take RR over the line.

#3 Virat Kohli – 8/10

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was pretty accurate with decisions for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) since the commencement of the IPL 2021. Although chinks in RCB’s armor started to appear in the final few games, there is no denying the fact that a lot of credit should go the captain for the team standing firmly at third place. Some of Virat Kohli’s decisions, such as his decision to bowl Shahbaz Ahmed at the death against SRH were masterstrokes.

Kohli’s insistence to push himself to open the innings resulted in them having the fastest scoring opening pair in IPL 2021. After many years, Virat and RCB seemed to have a game plan which worked for them. They admirably executed their plans well, and will surely wonder what might have been this season.

#2 Rishabh Pant – 8/10

IPL’s youngest skipper, Rishabh Pant exceeded expectations as he led the Delhi Capitals to the top of the IPL 2021 points table. He looked pretty matured on the field as the captain of the team which had packed with stars. Pant was often seen thinking on hos feet by not repeating his mistakes as he didn’t under bowled any bowler after doing the same for Ravichandran Ashwin to complete his quota against RR.

Similarly, Pant ensured Marcus Stoinis bowled at the start or in the middle overs after the all-rounder being smacked for 23 runs in the final over against RCB. Despite fact that Pant has a lot to learn as a captain, he did pretty well on his first rodeo.

#1 MS Dhoni – 9/10

MS Dhoni

A lot of pundits predicted that IPL 2021 will be a difficult one for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but MS Dhoni was determined to do well and proved most of the people wrong in the due process. He proclaimed that there aren’t a lot of people who are better than him in terms of captaincy. He was pretty shrewd with his leadership and managed to fill most of the loopholes found in the last season.

Dhoni read the pitches and conditions much better than his counterparts, which was evident especially in the game against RCB when they field an extra spinner, while Virat Kohli went in with an extra seamer. MS Dhoni has been known for backing his players in this season as well and reap rewards for the same as well with youngsters like Ruturaj Gaikwad performing at crucial junctures.
