Royal Challengers Bengaluru suffered a major setback during the power play against Rajasthan Royals in their IPL 2026 clash at the Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati, as Virat Kohli’s promising start was cut short. After early dismissals of Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal, Kohli looked set to stabilise the innings before falling for a quickfire 32 off just 16 balls.

RCB were already under pressure following Salt’s golden duck and Padikkal’s early departure, making Kohli’s role even more crucial. The former captain responded in typical fashion, taking the aggressive route and striking seven boundaries to keep the scoreboard ticking. His intent was clear — make full use of the power play and shift momentum back in RCB’s favour.

However, the Rajasthan Royals had their plans in place. Captain Riyan Parag, who has led the side impressively this season, made a smart tactical move by introducing leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi early into the attack. With conditions slightly damp and assisting bowlers, RR maintained tight control and looked a step ahead in their execution.

Bishnoi delivered the breakthrough at a crucial moment. On the fifth ball of the fifth over, he tossed one up outside off, tempting Kohli to go for an attacking stroke. The RCB batter, riding high on confidence, stepped forward to play through the line. But the ball turned sharply after pitching, sneaking through the gap between bat and pad to crash into the stumps.

It was a classic leg-spinner’s dismissal — flight, deception, and sharp turn all combining perfectly. Kohli’s wicket, with RCB at 58 for 3, marked a significant moment in the match, handing Rajasthan Royals firm control.
Under challenging conditions in Guwahati, RR’s bowlers executed their plans to perfection, capitalising on early breakthroughs and ensuring RCB never quite settled in the powerplay.
