Under-19 teen spin sensation Ravi Bishnoi once again displayed his brilliant spell of bowling as India bowled Japan out for mere 41 runs in the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa. Pacer Kartik Tyagi did the early damage, dismissing Japan’s opener Marcus Thurgate and No.3 batsman Neel Date in consecutive deliveries in the fifth over of the match. It was then that Bishnoi stepped in the scene. The 19-year-old leg-spinner, in his first two overs, took four wickets which included Japan’s top-scorer Shu Noguchi – without giving away a single run.

Bishnoi removed opener Noguchi with his first delivery of the over, before going on to bowl Kazumasa Takahashi out in the very next delivery. Japan were suddenly 14/4 in 7.2 overs. However,  they failed to score off the rest of the over but managed to reach to 19 in the next over thanks to extras – four leg-byes and a wide. Later, Bishnoi returned with two dot balls before cleaned up Ishaan Fartyal to reduced the opponent at 19 for 5. After two deliveries, the next batsman Ashley Thurgate was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal to end a dream spell for Ravi Bishnoi.

Medium-pacer Vidyadhar Patil struck in the next over before Tyagi and Akash Singh took the rest of the wickets to wrap Japan’s innings up. Bishnoi, who was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 2 crore in the IPL auction in December, finished with brilliant figures of four wickets for mere five runs. Kartik Tyagi took three wickets and Akash Singh picked up two.

Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kumar Kushagra chased down the total under five overs as India secured their second win in as many matches to seal the qualification berth for the quarter-finals.
