Ravi Bishnoi has expressed his disappointment over the way Indian cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma bowed out of T20Is and Test cricket without a grand farewell, despite their monumental contributions to the game. Both stalwarts announced their retirements shortly after leading India to a historic 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, shocking fans who had hoped to see them celebrated on the field one last time.

While Kohli and Rohit continue to play ODIs, uncertainty surrounds their future in the format. Reports suggest that India’s upcoming tour of Australia in October could mark the final chapter of their illustrious international careers. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has often faced criticism for not providing fitting send-offs to its legends, and Bishnoi believes these two icons deserved better.

“It’s actually shocking because you always want to see legends like them retire from the field. What they’ve done for India is unparalleled. There’s no one even close,” Ravi Bishnoi shared on the Game Changers podcast.

The young leg-spinner added that a farewell might still happen, possibly during their ODI exits, but stressed that their Test retirements deserved more celebration. “Maybe they will get that farewell in ODIs, whenever they choose to leave. But it was shocking when both retired suddenly—you immediately feel like two massive spots have opened up. Who steps in to fill that void?” he said.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma recently made headlines after reportedly clearing the newly introduced Bronco Test with flying colors during pre-season fitness assessments at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The veteran opener’s impressive fitness levels hint that he still has plenty to offer, whether or not this year’s tour Down Under proves to be his swansong.

As India transitions to a new era, the focus now shifts to the Asia Cup 2025, beginning September 9 in the UAE. The Men in Blue will open their campaign against the hosts on September 10, looking to defend their regional dominance.

If this truly is the twilight of Kohli and Rohit’s legendary careers, cricket fans will hope the duo gets the send-off their extraordinary journeys deserve.
