In the modern day game, there are very few players who have managed to be impactful across all the formats. It’s not easy for cricketers of today’s generation to switching between different forms of cricket without a dip in form. International cricket is demanding, and players cannot be treated as robots. Talking on the same line, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s cricketing schedule has been pretty hectic in past few years.

Though Virat is one of the fittest athletes in crickethe cannot allow his body to take a toll after playing too many matches with very little rest. The run machine has had a few injury concerns in the recent past and needs to manage his workload to have a prolonged cricketing career. In IPL 2018, Kohli suffered a neck injury and because of that, he will not be able to play County championship and he will undergo rehabilitation at the NCA.

India’s chief coach, Ravi Shastri reckons that Kohli needs to take rest ahead of the all-important tour to England. As quoted in Mumbai Mirror, he said, “He is not a machine but a human being. It is not a case of putting rocket fuel up his backside and getting him on the park. Even a top dog can’t be given rocket fuel up his backside.” Though Kohli is a workaholic, still he requires sufficient amount of rest to prepare himself for overseas tours. Fans cannot expect him to keep performing without taking rest.

The injury to Virat Kohli will be a big loss to Surrey, and it could also result in a revenue loss to the County. Talking about the same, Surrey‘s Director, Alec Stewart said, “It’s hugely disappointing that Virat won’t be joining Surrey for the month of June but we understand injuries happen and we have to respect the decision of the BCCI medical team to pull him from his stint with us.

The BCCI medical team is confident that Kohli will be fit and fine ahead of India’s tour to Ireland and England. The skipper will undergo a fitness test on June 15 at the NCA. The hectic cricket schedule has taken a toll on Virat‘s body and he needs to take tough calls in future to remain rejuvenated for important matches for the Indian team.
