Ravi Shastri opens up on Ranji Trophy taking place this year

The Ranji Trophy will take place in 2 phases this year, the first phase before, and the second phase after the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. While all the league stage games will take place in the first phase, the knockout matches will be played in Phase two. And, Ravi Shastri shared his views on this.

And now, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team Ravi Shastri has shared his views on Twitter where he shared the importance of the Ranji Trophy. Shastri tweeted that the Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket, and if the tournament is ignored, then Indian cricket will become spineless as well.

“The Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket. The moment you start ignoring it our cricket will be SPINELESS,” tweeted Ravi Shastri.

Meanwhile, veteran cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has also tweeted about the importance of the Ranji Trophy. Bhogle applauded the BCCI for conducting the Ranji Trophy and claimed that the tournament is needed for Indian cricket.

“Excellent initiative to try and get the Ranji Trophy going. It was much needed for both, the first-class cricketers and, in a larger context, for Indian cricket,” tweeted Harsha Bhogle.

Along with them, the Secretary of the BCCI, Jay Shah has said that the Ranji Trophy is a prestigious competition, and he has provided Indian cricket with great talent. Shah further added that all the necessary steps should be taken to safeguard the tournament taking place. On the other hand, the 2022 edition of the IPL is all set to begin in the final week of March.

“Ranji Trophy is our most prestigious domestic competition, which has been providing Indian Cricket with an enviable talent pool every year. It is absolutely important that we take all necessary steps to safeguard the interest of this premier event,” said Jay Shah as quoted by The Hindu.
