Earlier this year, Virat Kohli, the former Indian skipper has stepped down from the captaincy in all three formats. He took the decision considering the workload. However, He was sacked as the ODI skipper by the BCCI. Rohit Sharma was appointed as India’s captain recently in all three formats. He was the deputy skipper of the Indian team for a few years before that.
Rohit Sharma is heading towards the final phase of his international career. However, he will be expected to lead the Indian team at least till the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Ravi Shastri, the former Indian head coach suggested a few names who can lead the Indian team in the upcoming years. Shastri also suggested that the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a perfect platform for the young captains to showcase their leadership skills.

Talking about the same, during a recent media interaction, Ravi Shastri said, “Rohit’s not getting any younger. Neither is Virat (Kohli). They’ll have to look at who might be the captain two years, three years down the line. So that’s where I’ll be looking at. I’ll be looking at Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals).”
He further added, “I’ll be looking at Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders). Very closely. Of course KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants), the way he handles that side. And Hardik for the simple reason if that can energize in him a manner that can make him come out and play with gay abandon.”

Rishabh Pant has secured his place in the Indian team across the formats and Shreyas Iyer has contributed massively in the last few months for India. KL Rahul missed the last few matches due to injury. Hardik Pandya, The all-rounder has been out of action for almost 5 months now due to persistent injury issues regarding their back and shoulder.
