The Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri has come out in support of young Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant, advising him to settle down and find his bearings. He also added that nobody expects Pant to learn everything in one day. In the short career, the youngster who burst onto the scene after his IPL heroics has often come under the scanner due to his impatience as he often tends to get out playing irresponsible shots with complete disregard to the situation.
Pant was entrusted with the responsibility of filling the big void left by Dhoni in ODIs and T20Is but the Delhi based wicketkeeper hasn’t quite been able to get a grip on the opportunity and cement his place in the team.
Talking to IANS, Shastri said, “Nothing. Just tell him that you are young and nobody expects you to learn everything in one day. You are bound to make mistakes, but as long as you sit down and think about ways to rectify those mistakes, you know that is what this game will teach you.”

In his entire ODI career, Pant has amassed just 229 runs in 10 innings at an average of 22.90 with 48 being his highest score. In the 23 T20Is that he has played in 2019, he has scored 358 runs at 19.88 with two half-centuries to his name.
Rishabh has been picked as the lone wicketkeeper in the 15-member team for the three T20Is and as many ODIs against the West Indies. India head coach has backed the youngster by saying the one doesn’t become a superstar in one day.

Shastri explained, “You are not going to be a superstar in one day. You will have your ups and your downs. That is life, but the more you work harder, the more the sacrifices you make, the better you will become.”
