However, the recent developments regarding the fitness of the Indian cricketers have left the fans in shock when the young Sanju Samson was deemed unfit to play the India A’s tour of England. Mohammed Shami was also removed from the Indian Test squad as he also failed to clear the prescribed Yo-Yo test with the score of 16.1. Ishan Kishan was announced as Samson’s replacement. Navdeep Saini took over Shami’s place.

With a few players not able to attain the minimum score in the yo-yo test, the head coach Ravi Shastri took a hard decision to increase the minimum yo-yo test score from 16.1 to 16.3, which helps the fittest players raise their bar and unfit players to sit outside the squad. The decision has been taken by the head after keeping the upcoming World Cup in mind. It was also learned by TOI that the India, India A management and selectors took this decision last year but they implemented it now.

One of the sources on Times of India said, “Ravi has instructed that every player must pass the Yo-Yo test. He has taken the decision keeping in view the tough overseas assignments for the team, including next year’s World Cup.” The India A management and the selection committee will also follow the same.
