With no cricket going on, all the cricketers have a lot of free time on their hands right now. Many cricketers/ coaches have also been proactive on their social media in the past few weeks due to the lockdown. On Sunday, Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri joined the bandwagon and took to twitter and revisited his first Test century in India.
Remembering the knock, Shastri tweeted: “First 100 on home turf and that too Wankhede in 1984. Super feeling to do it in front of your home crowd with my parents watching. Turned out to be match-winning. 142 vs England”.

The Indian Cricket team was playing against England at the Wankhede Stadium in 1984. England won the toss and decided to bat first. India’s Laxman Sivaramakrishnan scalped six wickets as England bundled out for 195.

With India in the commanding seat after England’s first innings debacle, Shastri came on to add more vowes for the Englishman. Ravi Shastri scored his first ton in India as he racked up a powerful knock of 142 runs. His knock came off 323 balls which included 17 fours and one six. Riding on Shastri’s 142 and Syed Kirmani’s 102, India registered a massive 465/8 in their first innings. The hosts took full advantage of the track and helped themselves a gigantic 270 runs lead over England.
England was bowled out in the second innings for a mere 217. Chasing 48 runs, India comfortably went on to register a win by eight wickets.

Shastri is currently working as the head coach of India’s men’s cricket team. India also registered its first Test series win in Australia under his guidance. Shastri was also involved in India’s wonderful performance at the 2019 World Cup which saw India reach the semi-finals.
