Former India coach Ravi Shastri has shared some valuable advice for 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who recently made headlines by becoming the youngest debutant in IPL history for the Rajasthan Royals. Suryavanshi announced his arrival with a remarkable six off his very first ball, showcasing the fearless spirit that defines young talent.

However, his dream debut hasn’t translated into wins for the Rajasthan Royals, who are now grappling with five consecutive defeats. Despite some promising starts, RR’s inability to close out games has seen them slip to ninth place in the points table, with just two victories from nine outings.

Speaking on ICC Review, Shastri stressed that early failures could be crucial in shaping Suryavanshi’s career. “He’s very young, and it’s vital he learns to fall and rise again. That first shot he played took everyone’s breath away. He has immense potential, but it’s important to allow him the space to fail and learn,” Ravi Shastri said.

He also warned that tougher challenges await the teenager, as opposition bowlers will soon devise plans to exploit his inexperience. Suryavanshi has managed 50 runs across two matches at an average of 25, but Shastri emphasised that the road ahead won’t be easy.

“Once you smash your first ball for six, you don’t get any sympathy, no matter your age. Bowlers will test him, especially with short-pitched stuff,” Ravi Shastri added.
