In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Delhi Capitals (DC) have witnessed one of their worst outings as they have lost five matches on the trot and are yet to register their first win in the ongoing edition. They were once again hammered by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their fifth fixture by 23 runs on Saturday, April 15. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri was heavily critical of Delhi’s campaign so far and said that it’s difficult for any team to make a comeback.
Shastri opines that after such a poor start there are people in the dugout who’re not used to losing so much such as head coach Ricky Ponting and David Warner.
As per the quotes in My Khel, Ravi Shastri said, “The problem now with Delhi Capitals is, especially with the way the other teams are going, you lose four on the trot, it becomes very, very difficult to come back. There are people in that dugout that are not used to losing. Ricky Ponting’s one. David Warner too. He’s been on the winning side as well.”

Shastri further talked about the manner in which DC has been losing their matches. They lost their first encounter against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 50 runs, and their second match against Gujarat Titans (GT) by six wickets. In their third fixture, they were suffered another heavy defeat by 57 runs against Rajasthan Royals and were beaten by 6 wickets against Mumbai Indians in their fourth game.
Talking about the same, Ravi Shastri said, “It’s not about losing. It’s about being hammered. It’s five on the trot, with you not looking like winning. Losing close games is one thing, when you’re being outplayed by opposition, it’s not a happy story.”

He further took a dig at Sourav Ganguly who serves as Director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals. As DC was dominated in the field once again, Shastri commented that the former BCCI president would be missing sitting upstairs instead of sitting in the DC dugout. He said, “Sourav Ganguly, the former president of the board. He must have thought it was nice upstairs.”
Delhi has been having a tough time in the tournament so far as most of their players have failed collectively. No one other than David Warner and Axar Patel has managed to score runs. With the ball, everyone other than Rovman Powell and Mitchell Marsh have been averaging over 30. They will next face Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday, April 20 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, and will be desperate to change their fortunes.
