On Tuesday, India’s flamboyant opener KL Rahul has finally made a comeback to the nets after being missed out from the first Test due to viral fever. However, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has been keeping a close eye on Rahul’s fitness for his availability in the second Test against Sri Lanka.
During a media interaction on Tuesday, Shastri shared some news about Rahul fitness. As per the quotes in PTI, Indian coach said, “Rahul is (doing) good. We are watching him closely. He went through some tough times and he was in the hospital for 2-3 days. Obviously, it has taken a lot out of him. So we have to be very careful how we treat him, we are watching him very closely and he is getting better by the day.”
Shastri also believes that it’s good to have a problem of plenty like currently, Rahul is getting fit and Abhinav Mukund is also in contention for the spot after a fifty in the first test. Talking about the same, Shastri said, “When I have good bench strength, it is very good. When there is competition for places even better because that’s healthy competition and a good headache to have. It is very good but ideally, you want your core team to be fit and in the park as often as possible.”
Team India will be eyeing to whitewash Sri Lanka in the ongoing 3-match Test series.
