Former Indian coach, Ravi Shastri has suggested that the selectors will be closely monitoring the Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the young southpaw will soon play for the Indian team. Jaiswal has had a breakout season in the IPL this year with consistent performances as the opener for the Royals. The 21-year-old has already amassed 575 runs and is just one run behind the current Orange cap holder Faf du Plessis.

In the last five games for RR, Jaiswal has scored a couple of fifties and a brilliant century against MI at the Wankhede stadium. The RR opener also scored the fastest half-century in IPL history off just 13 balls against KKR at the Eden Gardens recently. His consistent performances have caught the eye of everyone, with many pundits suggesting that the 21-year-old should be called up to the Indian team.

Shastri is the latest to agree with the opinion. Speaking to Star Sports ahead of the RR vs RCB clash, the former Indian team coach said that the best thing about Jaiswal is the way he has raised his skill. The former India coach said that there is power in his game and timing and he has very bright future prospects.

Ravi Shastri explained, “The selectors must be closely monitoring Jaiswal and he will soon play for India. The best thing about him is the way he’s raised his graph. There is power in his game, there’s timing. He has very bright future prospects.”

This is not the first time Shastri has vouched for Jaiswal for becoming part of Team India. After his knock against KKR, the former India coach said that the 21-year-old should be the first name picked for the national team in white-ball cricket.

Elaborating the same, Ravi Shastri said, “Immediately (How soon will he get an India call-up?). The selectors would love seeing what they are seeing. They would love to see such a talent after a long wait, someone who is so good across all formats. And especially, in white-ball cricket, in T20 cricket, he walks into the side irrespective of who’s there. His will be the first name picked.”
