Former India head coach Ravi Shastri found himself in a commentary blunder during the ongoing third Test between India and England in Rajkot. While commentating on debutant Sarfaraz Khan, Shastri mistakenly referred to Sarfaraz’s wife, Romana Jahur, as his mother.

As Sarfaraz Khan made his Test debut on Thursday, both his father, Naushad Khan, and wife were present for the cap presentation ceremony. After the ceremony, they took their seats in the stands, eagerly awaiting Sarfaraz’s performance.

In the third session of the day, Sarfaraz stepped onto the field to bat. The cameras turned toward his family in the stands, and it was at this moment that Ravi Shastri made the error, saying, “His father, and mother, watching the young man bat.”

Sarfaraz Khan made a remarkable start to his international career, showing no signs of nervousness as he aggressively tackled the England attack, scoring a rapid fifty. In just 48 balls, he equaled the Indian record for the fastest fifty on Test debut.

However, his promising innings came to an unfortunate end when a miscommunication with Ravindra Jadeja led to his run-out at 62. Sarfaraz’s debut knock included 9 fours and a six.

Reflecting on the overall performance of the day, India finished at 326 for 5 after opting to bat first. Despite a shaky start with the loss of three early wickets, captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja’s centuries rescued the team, forming a crucial 204-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Rohit Sharma contributed 131 runs before being dismissed by Mark Wood, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 110.

The blunder in commentary by Ravi Shastri added an unexpected moment to Sarfaraz Khan’s debut, creating a quirky incident on an otherwise eventful day of Test cricket in Rajkot.
