Delhi Capitals began their IPL 2026 campaign with promise, but a string of disappointing performances has seen them slip down the points table at a crucial stage of the tournament. What started as a well-balanced and confident unit has now turned inconsistent, with recent losses exposing both tactical and execution flaws.

Their struggles were highlighted in back-to-back setbacks—first, a high-scoring defeat to Punjab Kings, where dropped catches proved costly, and then a shocking batting collapse against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Being bowled out for a double-digit total was not just a defeat but a reality check for a side that once looked like a strong playoff contender.
As expected, the team’s dip in form has triggered criticism, particularly aimed at head coach Hemang Badani. Social media reactions have been harsh, with many questioning his decisions and leadership during this rough patch. However, former DC all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has stepped in to offer a more measured perspective.

Ashwin emphasised that the IPL is an extremely demanding tournament, where managing a diverse group of international and domestic players takes time. He pointed out that Badani had earlier been praised for bold tactical calls—such as promoting Sameer Rizvi up the order—which had paid off.

“Criticism is part of the game, but it’s unfair to pin everything on the coach,” Ravichandran Ashwin noted, adding that mistakes are collective in nature, involving players and leadership alike, including captain Axar Patel.

Ashwin also highlighted that Badani is still relatively new to the IPL coaching environment and deserves time to settle into the role. While recent comments involving Stephen Fleming may have added to the scrutiny, Ashwin believes patience is key.
Currently sitting seventh with just three wins from eight matches, Delhi Capitals face an uphill battle. But as the IPL has shown time and again, momentum can shift quickly—provided the team regains its composure and clarity.
