Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backed newly appointed India captain Shubman Gill’s 15-day camp proposal before any Test series. Reportedly, Gill has recommended to the BCCI that the team should have 15-day camps before a Test series as well.

“Whosever idea it is of a 15-day camp before a Test series, I like it. If you have such a camp, the odds are that you will get in, even now there are conversations that England’s preparation for the Ashes was not bang on, England were looking ready in Australia after three Tests, many times when we go on a tour, even after a lot of preparation we don’t play practice matches but we play a lot of centre wicket practice and even after that it will take you a Test or two to get into the series, so I think this 15-day camp will put you into that Test mindset and that Test habits. I really like the idea,” he said on ‘Ash ki Baat’.

“Can you do it in today’s calendar? I feel that if the intent is there, you can definitely do it. You can prioritise it. This is a thought that is definitely placed in the right place, so I really like the idea,” he further added.

Talking about the suggestion further, Ravichandran Ashwin also shared that the 15-day camps would help the team to switch on and adapt better as well.
“Between Test and T20, here is a big jump. That adaptation is required. If this 15-day camp can be implemented, I think we can find a huge difference. There is no lack of talent in the Indian team. They just need to switch on tactically, strategically, and mentally. And for that, this camp will definitely be useful,” Ravichandran Ashwin concluded.
