Ravindra Jadeja has been a part of Indian cricket for more than a decade, and his performances in all three formats have been exceptional. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball, along with electric fielding, has cemented his reputation as one of India’s finest all-rounders. However, his impact often goes unnoticed, a point recently highlighted by veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Jadeja once again proved his brilliance in the first ODI against England in Nagpur, taking a match-winning spell of 3/26 in nine overs. His performance restricted England to 248, further cementing his dominance in India-England clashes. With these wickets, Jadeja also became the highest wicket-taker in ODIs between the two teams. In this scintillating performance, Ashwin went on his YouTube show Ash Ki Baat and lauded his former teammate, blaming the media for not giving the correct due to Jadeja.
“Our media fails to appreciate when a player does well. But when we lose, everybody becomes a villain suddenly. Jadeja goes under the radar despite his consistent performances. He is a ‘Jackpot Jango’—a complete package. He’s a +10 in the field, bowls brilliantly, and handles pressure with the bat. We don’t give him enough credit,” Ravichandran Ashwin remarked.

Ravichandran Ashwin admitted he had nothing but admiration when asked about Jadeja approaching his career wickets tally, feeling that Jadeja is naturally more gifted compared to him.

“Jadeja is way more talented than I ever was. He’s a born athlete. His biggest strength is his physical fitness—he is naturally fit and can cover the field like no one else. Even at this stage of his career, he can guard the entire region from long-on to deep square leg while standing at mid-wicket. I’ll be more than happy if he surpasses me,” Ravichandran Ashwin added.

Ravindra Jadeja has entered an elite club of Indian bowlers with his latest milestone of 600 international wickets. He joins the likes of legends like Anil Kumble (953), Ashwin (765), Harbhajan Singh (707), and Kapil Dev (697). His 600 wickets include 323 in Tests, 220 in ODIs, and 54 in T20Is, making him one of India’s greatest all-rounders of all time.
