Veteran India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is known for his great bowling, but he is also known for running out non-strikers who leave the crease early. Ashwin got a taste of his own medicine in a TNPL 2024 game between Dindigul Dragons and Nellai Royal Kings. This happened in the innings when Dragons came out to bat first.

So, Ravichandran Ashwin, known for his sharp cricketing intellect, did step out of his crease, only to find left-arm spinner Mohan Prasath stopping mid-delivery. Ashwin did well to quickly stop his movement, and it was seen from the replay that he had his bat on the crease, thus avoiding a run-out.

This moment, reminiscent of Ashwin’s controversial dismissal of Jos Buttler during IPL 2019, quickly went viral on social media. The Dragons won the toss and opted to bat first in the 28th game of TNPL 2024 at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul.

The innings was shakily batted with Vimal Khumar being dismissed for just four runs, Baba Indrajith adding only six. Shivam Singh stood out in an otherwise disappointing batting performance with a composed 70 runs off 59 deliveries. Ravichandran Ashwin contributed 15 runs as the Dragons posted a modest total of 136 runs in their innings.

The chase towards 137 turned out to be quite decent by Nellai Royal Kings. Opener Arun Karthik came out and made a scintillating start with 45 runs off 30 balls while Guruswamy Ajitesh added a solid 43 off 39. Both these efforts put things very easy for the Royal Kings to take a comfortable four-wicket victory, their third this season.

On the other hand, the Dindigul Dragons slipped to fourth place, still retaining eight points from seven matches. This was one of those games which showed the fans not only the creativity and presence of mind Ashwin possesses on the pitch but how unpredictable, thrilling, and full of life cricket can be.
