Chennai Super Kings head to the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday for a crucial IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals, with the tournament moving into its most decisive phase. Both teams still have a lot on the line, and this match could go a long way in shaping the playoff race. CSK have recovered well after a slow start to the season. With eight points from nine matches, they currently sit sixth on the table and will be eager to keep their momentum alive.

Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, began strongly but have since slipped into a poor run of results, leaving their qualification hopes under serious pressure. With the points table tightening up, there is very little room for error now. Ahead of the contest, former CSK and DC all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin pointed out that the side that bowls better on the night is likely to come out on top. He noted that Delhi’s top order can be dangerous, but its middle order remains a concern.
“The DC opening pair of KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka started the game against Chennai at Chepauk in blazing fashion in the powerplay,” Ravichandran Ashwin said. “Khaleel brought CSK back into the game in the final over of the powerplay and CSK went on to win the game. DC’s batting order succumbed to Jamie Overton’s hard length there on out,” he added.

Ravichandran Ashwin further explained that while Delhi’s bowling attack is strong, the batting unit still has a vulnerable middle phase.
“DC’s bowling unit is strong as well, but their middle-order is vulnerable,” he said. With the Arun Jaitley Stadium expected to offer true bounce and a relatively small outfield, Ashwin feels bowlers who hit their lengths smartly could make the biggest difference. “The ground is rather small, the bounce won’t be steep, and I feel the team that bowls better will go on to dominate the game,” he said.

CSK’s season has already seen several swings in form. They opened with defeats to Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but later bounced back with wins over Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. After another setback against Sunrisers Hyderabad, they responded strongly with wins over the Mumbai Indians twice and the Gujarat Titans.

Delhi’s campaign has followed a similarly mixed pattern. They began with wins over Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians, but losses to Gujarat Titans and CSK slowed them down. A win over RCB briefly revived their charge, before defeats to Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings and RCB created more uncertainty. Their recent victory over Rajasthan Royals, however, has kept them in the hunt.
