Ravichandran Ashwin took to social media on Saturday, March 8, to call out misinformation after a viral post falsely attributed a major claim to him regarding the potential retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli post-Champions Trophy 2025. The post, made by an X user, suggested that Ashwin had inside knowledge of Rohit’s long-term ODI plans and Kohli’s intentions to step away from cricket to focus on family.

Speculation about Rohit and Kohli’s future in ODIs has been brewing, especially since both stalwarts bid farewell to T20Is following India’s World Cup triumph last year. With the next ODI World Cup scheduled for 2027—by which time Rohit will be 40 and Kohli 39—many believe this could be their final ICC 50-over event. Additionally, India’s qualification for the 2027 World Test Championship final remains uncertain, adding to the speculation.

The trending tweet had quoted Ashwin to say, “As far as I know, Rohit is eyeing the 2027 ODI World Cup, and you might witness Virat Kohli retiring shortly because he needs to spend more time with his young family. That’s what Virat talked about with me a few months ago.”

Rejecting the suggestion in his characteristically witty fashion, Ashwin retorted, “Heartwarming to notice humans still acing creative narration in this era of AI. Good script, though perhaps query me next time prior to giving me the main role?”
