Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has publicly slammed a fake quote attributed to him that recently circulated on social media, linking him to a controversial statement regarding the India-Pakistan matches in two separate tournaments. Known for his articulate views shared through his YouTube channel and talk show Ash Ki Baat, Ashwin made it clear that he had no connection to the viral post.

The fabricated statement falsely claimed that Ashwin had commented on the cancellation of the India vs Pakistan clash in the World Championship of Legends (WCL), suggesting it was scrapped due to a lack of financial interest. The post contrasted it with the upcoming Asia Cup fixture, alleging that BCCI’s decision to proceed with the latter was based on high monetary stakes and assured returns.

According to the fake quote, Ravichandran Ashwin was purported to have said, “Small money is involved, so World Championship of Legends got cancelled, but India is still playing against Pakistan in Asia Cup and BCCI hasn’t cancelled it because the amount of money decides the level of patriotism.”
Don’t associate me with this fake news.

Ashwin was swift and firm in his response. He took to social media to issue a strong denial, writing, “Don’t associate me with this fake news. Shame on those who trigger all this.” His reaction was met with support from fans and fellow cricketers who condemned the spread of misinformation.
The India–Pakistan WCL match was officially called off on July 20, with organizers issuing an apology for the inconvenience caused. Shikhar Dhawan had earlier withdrawn from the game, followed by Suresh Raina confirming his absence.
