Ravindra Jadeja Hands Back The CSK Captaincy To MS Dhoni

After witnessing a forgettable start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 campaign, the defending champions’ skipper for the season, Ravindra Jadeja has decided to step down from the tole of captaincy and has requested MS Dhoni to take the reins back of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Jadeja has taken the decision to focus and concentrate more on his game.

In a statement announcing the same, “Ravindra Jadeja has decided to relinquish captaincy to focus and concentrate more on his game and has requested MS Dhoni to lead CSK. MS Dhoni has accepted to lead CSK in the larger interest and to allow Jadeja to focus on his game.”

The 2021 champions incurred one of their worst starts to a season as they had lost their first four games in a row before claiming their first win against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on April 12. And just when it was expected that they will witness a turnaround under the leadership of Jadeja, CSK lost two more matches in their next three games to stand ninth in the points table.

Against Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening match of the season, MS Dhoni had smashed a quickfire fifty and then turned the clock back with a sensational blitz against Mumbai Indians, taking CSK to a thrilling last-ball victory. Dhoni’s first game back at the helm will come on Sunday at the MCA stadium in Pune, against Kane Williamson’s SRH who sit in the top half of the table.

CSK’s campaign hangs on a thread presently having acquired just four wins in eight matches. In addition to CSK’s poor run of form, Ravindra Jadeja too has struggled in the tournament, scoring just 112 runs in 92 balls at a strike rate of 121.7 with a boundary every 8.3 balls while also picking five wickets in eight innings at an economy rate of 8.19.
