Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja has been officially ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 due to a rib injury. He had sustained the injury while attempting to take a catch during the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 4. While he continued playing that game, Jadeja missed CSK’s last outing against Delhi Capitals (DC). Incidentally, that was only the second game Jadeja had missed a match for CSK since the 2012 edition.

Among the fittest players in cricket, Ravindra Jadeja is witnessing one of the most challenging phases of his career. He was handed the captaincy two days before IPL 2022 began. However, eight matches into Super Kings’ campaign, he stepped down, saying he wanted to focus more on his game.

Ravindra Jadeja has also witnessed a fall in his batting form after the added demands of captaincy as he has amassed just 116 runs in ten innings, including two ducks in IPL 202. With the ball, he has five wickets from 33 overs at an average of nearly 50.

After his first match back as captain, against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 1, MS Dhoni had said that he looked to help Jadeja with his captaincy in the first couple of matches this season as part of a “gradual transition” plan.

Explaining the same, during a chat with Star Sports, MS Dhoni said, “So it was a gradual transition where I said, ‘Okay, this is what I will do. I will take care of the fielding angles and everything for the first game, second game. After that, you will have to decide on your own because that’s the only way you will learn what captaincy is.’ Spoon-feeding doesn’t really help the captain. On the field, you have to take those crucial decisions and you have to take responsibility for those decisions.”
