Team India have been doing well in the first Test match at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali where Sri Lanka’s wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella got out to spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on Day 3. He could only manage 2 runs off 10 balls.
However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma had kept two fielders for the sweep – one was at short fine whereas the other one was inside at the deep square leg as well. Dickwella after having missed a couple of sweep shots in the 61st over went for the sweep again on the 4th ball but got a top edge. Shreyas Iyer who was fielding at mid-square leg grabbed a good low catch to dismiss the batsman. And, in the 6th ball of the same over Ravindra Jadeja dismissed Suranga Lakmal for a duck as well.

On the other hand, earlier, on Day 2 of the Test match, Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 175 runs and India ended up with 574 runs for 8 wickets. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma declared the innings when Jadeja was on the verge of scoring 200. Fans weren’t happy with Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid’s decision as it denied Jadeja from scoring his maiden double-ton as well. But Jadeja himself clarified that he decided and signalled the team management to make the call regarding the declaration as well.
“Yeah there was a message coming from inside and I was also telling them. When I was batting, balls had started taking spin and there was variable bounce. So I told them that the wicket is playing tricks and we can put them [Sri Lanka] into bat,” Jadeja said in the press conference after the gameplay of Day 2.

“They were on the field for almost two days and were naturally tired. So it wouldn’t have been easy for them to come out and start playing shots and stay further on the field. So our plan was to score quickly and declare as soon as possible,” Ravindra Jadeja concluded.
