Team India’s debacle in Australia paved the way to debates about senior players not preferring to take part in red-ball cricket aka domestic cricket. In the aftermath, the top Indian cricket governing body, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), took note of the declining performances in the international arena and introduced a 10-point policy to make amends for the future.
After stars Rohit, and Pant made themselves available for their respective states, another star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is not all set to play for Saurashtra in the upcoming Ranji Trophy game. Jadeja is expected to play against Delhi. Notably, the Indian board has now made it compulsory for all the players to play in the domestic circuit. However, should they fail to abide by the newly released guidelines, they may have to face consequences.
“Jadeja has turned up for training today. He will play the next match,” Saurashtra Cricket Association president Jaydev Shah was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, the star wicketkeeper-batter has been included in the Delhi squad as recently confirmed and announced by the DDCA (Delhi District Cricket Association). Hence Pant will most likely take the field against Saurashtra in the upcoming Ranji Trophy fixture. However, the veteran India batting stalwart Virat Kohli made himself unavailable for Delhi’s game due to a neck injury.

Besides, India’s Champions Trophy squad was announced on Saturday. While speaking with reporters, the BCCI Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar, shed light on the importance of domestic cricket and why all the players should take part in it for the betterment of Indian cricket.
“I don’t think it’s a diktat. It’s one of the things that BCCI has obviously put forward. But as I said, I mean, as selectors, we expect people, when they’re available, to play because that can only strengthen our domestic structure,” Ajit Agarkar stated.

“Not just for their form or their fitness and playing cricket, but it can only strengthen our domestic structure. So, when the time permits, we expect everyone to play,” he concluded.
