Ravindra Jadeja, India’s star all-rounder, has put an end to the swirling rumours about his potential retirement with a simple yet firm message on Instagram. Just a day after India’s thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy final, Jadeja took to social media to address speculation about his future, posting: “No unnecessary rumours, thanks,” accompanied by a folded hands and salute emoji

.
The whispers about Jadeja’s retirement have been circulating for months, with many citing his age (36), his retirement from T20Is, India’s elimination from the ongoing World Test Championship, and the fact that the next ICC ODI event—the 2027 World Cup—is still a few years away. However, his latest statement strongly suggests that he has no immediate plans to walk away from the 50-over format.

Interestingly, even during the final, speculation about Jadeja’s potential ODI farewell gained momentum. After his brilliant 10-over spell in the first innings—where he dismissed New Zealand’s Tom Latham—Virat Kohli was seen embracing him warmly. While it was a seemingly normal gesture, some fans and analysts misinterpreted it as an emotional send-off for Jadeja’s ‘last’ ODI outing. Adding fuel to the fire, Jadeja struck the winning shot for India, which some believed was a poetic way to conclude his career.

But just like his captain Rohit Sharma, Jadeja has put all such rumors to rest. Rohit, too, dismissed speculation about his retirement in the post-match press conference, making it clear that he isn’t stepping away anytime soon. While this could very well be the last Champions Trophy for Jadeja, Rohit, and Kohli—given that the next edition is scheduled for 2029, by which time they’d be over 40—none of them have officially signalled the end of their ODI careers.
Jadeja’s impact in the tournament was undeniable. He finished as India’s highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets in 15 matches, once again proving his worth as a match-winner. Head coach Gautam Gambhir had earlier highlighted Jadeja’s immense value to Indian cricket, stating that the all-rounder often goes underappreciated despite his consistent performances across all formats.

“I’ve always felt that Ravindra Jadeja has gone under the radar. He’s someone we don’t speak highly enough about. Look at what he has done for Indian cricket—whether it’s Tests, T20Is, or ODIs. He’s an asset with the bat, the ball, and in the field. He’s one of the top all-rounders in world cricket,” Gautam Gambhir remarked.
