The M Chinnaswamy Stadium is set to host its first Indian Premier League clash since last year’s tragic stampede, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have ensured that the return of cricket carries a deep sense of remembrance. In a heartfelt tribute to the 11 fans who lost their lives during the June 4 celebrations, the franchise has decided to permanently reserve 11 seats in the stadium. These seats will remain unoccupied during every match, serving as a silent and powerful reminder of the lives lost.

Taking the tribute a step further, RCB players will wear jersey number 11 during practice sessions throughout IPL 2026. A memorial plaque will also be installed near the stadium’s inner entrance, offering fans a dedicated space to reflect and pay their respects.
The initiative was confirmed by Rajesh Menon and Mo Bobat during a press interaction in Bengaluru on March 24, ahead of RCB’s season opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Beyond the emotional tributes, the focus has firmly shifted to safety. Following the judicial inquiry that deemed the venue unsafe, authorities have implemented sweeping changes. The stadium now features an advanced AI-powered CCTV system with over 300 cameras that monitor crowd density in real time and alert officials instantly in the event of congestion.

Entry and exit points have been completely redesigned in accordance with a strict Standard Operating Procedure approved by the Karnataka High Court, with close coordination among RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association, and the local police.
To further enhance crowd management, the franchise has introduced a largely digital ticketing system, with up to 90 per cent of tickets being issued electronically. Fans will also benefit from integrated metro access, allowing smoother transportation while eliminating traffic congestion around the venue. Additionally, stadium gates will open four hours before matches to ensure staggered entry.
