Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be seen donning a green kit in their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, May 8 in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Since 2011, RCB has been playing one game in every IPL season in the green jersey as part of their ‘Go Green’ initiative to create awareness regarding a greener and more sustainable environment.

In 2021, instead of playing in the green jersey, RCB players were seen sporting a blue jersey in one game, to pay a tribute to frontline workers for their sacrifice and hard work during tough times of the pandemic in the world, especially in India witnessed during the destructive second COVID-19 wave.

Speaking about the same in a video shared by RCB ahead of the game against SRH, former skipper Virat Kohli said, “The Go Green sustainability initiative has been a huge part of our RCB culture since 2011. Over the years you’ve seen RCB sport the green jersey in a day game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium to create awareness around a greener and more sustainable planet earth.”

He further added, “Continuing the ‘Go Green’ cause that we truly believe in, RCB will be wearing the green match kits on 8th of May when we take on Sunrisers Hyderabad.”

Further, all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell has urged the fans and followers to do their bit in making the earth more sustainable for the upcoming generations. He said, “Let’s all continue to try and play a small part in moving towards a greener future through environment-friendly measures that can help make this world a much better and safer place to live in for the coming generations.”

From switching off lights and closing water taps to reducing plastic usage and carbon footprints, the RCB players urged everyone to do the small things right.

In 10 matches, RCB has won just two and lost 7 while one game was called off due to rain in the 2015 edition against the Delhi Daredevils. RCB beat the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011 when Chris Gayle smashed 37 runs in one over of left-arm pacer Prasanth Parameswaran.

The second win came against Gujarat Lions in 2016 when Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers had scored centuries and made a brilliant partnership of 229 runs. Du Plessis-led side will be hoping for a better result against the Sunrisers to push their chances for playoffs.
