The 22nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is being played between the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Nitish Rana-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, April 16. Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav is leading Mumbai Indians against Kolkata as regular skipper Rohit Sharma suffers from a stomach bug.
The hosts won the toss and elected to field first; during the toss, skipper Suryakumar gave an update on Rohit’s situation ahead of the game. He said, “Will love to bowl first; the wicket looks dry. The ball comes on to the bat nicely later. Rohit is out, he has a stomach bug. Time to put up a good show. We are going with one change; Duan Jansen comes in; the rest is the same.”

Suryakumar Yadav would be keen to improve his performance in the tournament. He has only managed to score 16 runs in three matches so far, and with the added responsibility of being the stand-in skipper for Mumbai, it could prove to be an opportunity for the batter to shine.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians had a horrid run at the IPL 2022, where they finished 10th in the IPL points table. As the Rohit Sharma-led side came to the ongoing tournament to witness some change in the fortune, they were met with two back-to-back losses to Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings in their first two matches of the tournament.
However, they did win their first game of the season when they took on Delhi Capitals in the 16th game of the tournament away from home. After a masterclass by skipper Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma, the side was able to chase the target down.
