Suryakumar Yadav is a perfect example of the saying “better late than never.” The Mumbai Indians batsman made his international debut for Team India at the age of 31 in 2021, but he has quickly established himself as one of the most destructive batters in the world in the shortest format of the game.
In just two years, Suryakumar Yadav has amassed over 1800 runs in T20Is, including three centuries and 12 half-centuries. He has also scored the second-fastest T20I century for India and the joint second-fastest half-century. His strike rate of over 170 is among the best in the world.
Suryakumar Yadav’s success in T20Is is even more remarkable considering that he only started playing the format regularly in 2017. Before that, he was primarily a domestic cricketer and had only played a handful of T20Is. His s journey to the top has been anything but easy.

He had to overcome several challenges along the way, including a career-threatening knee injury. But his determination and hard work have paid off, and he is now one of the most sought-after cricketers in the world. Surya’s story is an inspiration to all those who have ever doubted themselves. It shows that it is never too late to achieve your dreams, no matter how difficult the odds may seem.

Surya’s success in T20Is has not been replicated in ODIs yet. He has only played nine ODIs and has scored just 172 runs. However, Suryakumar Yadav has shown glimpses of his potential in ODIs as well. He scored a brilliant 57 against England in the 2021 ODI series, and he also played a key role in India’s victory in the 2022 ODI series against West Indies.
With the T20 World Cup just a few months away, Suryakumar Yadav will be hoping to cement his place in the Indian ODI team. He has all the tools to be a successful ODI batsman and will be eager to prove himself on the biggest stage.
