The death of former England batter Graham Thorpe, 55, sent shock waves of sadness throughout the cricket community on Monday. It was a massive shock to the cricket world, as announced by the England Cricket Board that Thorpe had died. Messages of condolence poured in from all around the world at the turn of events; the cricket community expressed its respect for a player truly regarded as one of England’s finest batters.
Graham Thorpe has played 100 Test matches for England from 1993 to 2005, making 6744 runs. He has also had 16 Test centuries in his career, including a memorable Ashes century on debut, while his highest score was 200. Added to that Test career, Thorpe had a fine first-class record with 21,937 runs for Surrey, also with 49 hundreds at an average of 45.04. However, his most important service to the game came well after his playing days when, for over a decade now, he has been a coach with the national side, passing on so much knowledge and experience to a new generation of cricketers.

Waking up to the truly dreadful news of the death of Graham Thorpe, at the age of 55. A brilliant batsman who dug us out of many a hole, but more importantly a person who always embraced the fun after a tough day on the field of play.
