India Women completed a dominating win over the Barbados Women during their last group stage encounter played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on August 3 (Wednesday). With this win, the Women in Blue have now qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s cricket competition being played in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

After being asked to bat first, Team India amassed 160 runs in their quota of 20 overs before completely bamboozling the Women in Maroon batting line-up with pacer Renuka Singh wreaking havoc on the batters in front. The right-arm pacer bowled her full four-over quota and conceded ten runs before scalping four crucial wickets for her side.

One of the wickets taken by Renuka Singh included the wicket of Aaliyah Alleyne who was completely bamboozled by a sharp in-swinger bowled by the pacer. Talking about the delivery, the ball nipped back sharply with the angle, and Aaliyah for some reason decided to leave the ball as she saw her stumps being disturbed.

Talking more about the match, Barbados Women won the toss and opted to bowl first. The bowling side managed to get an early scalp of Smriti Mandhana in the second over of the match. Batters Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues played some vital knocks for their team before the finishing touches were applied by senior batter Deepti Sharma.

In reply, Kyshona Knight produced 16 off 20 balls and Shakera Selman managed to score 12 off 16 as none of the other Barbados batters even managed to surpass the 10-run score. They completed their allotted 20 overs after scoring just 62 runs and losing eight wickets in the process.

Apart from Renuka Singh, Meghna Singh, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scalped one wicket each for their side as team India march towards the semi-final encounter. The Women in Blue would be aiming for no less than a gold medal from this stage.
