One of the popular Indian Premier League (IPL) teams Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is working to set the new leadership group that can help the team to end their trophy-less season in the next IPL season (2019). Some latest reports are claiming that RCB management is now going to make a big change by making AB de Villiers as the skipper for the next season.

AB de Villiers

Already RCB has sacked their most of last IPL (2018) coaches, including the head coach Daniel Vettori. Only the batting coach Gary Kirsten and bowling coach Ashish Nehra have been retained with the promotions as Kristen will serve as the head coach while Nehra will be a part in the coaching leadership team of RCB.

Now according to reports in kannada.asianetnews.com and kannada.news18.com, RCB is going to change the leadership role for the new season. While the Indian skipper Virat Kohli is leading the team for a long time since 2013, the management now wants to see the former South African captain AB de Villiers in that crucial role.

Since IPL 2013, Kohli is leading side uninterruptedly. He has led the RCB in 96 IPL games where the team has achieved 44 victories and lost in 47 games. While MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir have led in 159 and 129 IPL matches respectively, Kohli is at the very next position on the list.

Under Kohli’s captaincy, RCB’s best record is the runners-up in IPL 2016 as they lost the thrilling final by just 8 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Virat Kohli

Apart from that season, RCB has never qualified for the IPL playoffs under Kohli’s captaincy. RCB had a poor start in IPL 2018 but finally, they finished at the sixth position (among the eight teams) and just missed to qualify for playoffs after their brilliant late comeback.

Though AB de Villiers has no leadership experience in IPL career, he has huge leadership experiences in the international cricket. De Villiers, who is serving as the vice-captain of RCB, is playing for the franchise since 2011. So, he is another good choice for the franchise.
