India defeated SL in Nagpur Test

Team India once again dominated Sri Lanka as they registered a comprehensive win over the visitors by an innings margin.

Virat Kohli and his men exposed the obvious lack of skill from both Sri Lankan batting and bowling. The visitors batted first after winning the toss but didn’t able to capitalize on the benefit of winning the toss. Apart from Karunaratne (51) and Chandimal (57), Lankan first innings was just one batsman following another back to the dressing room.

India’s ace pacer R Ashwin took 4/67, while Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma took 3 wickets each. Lankan batsmen’s selection of shots was pretty poor as even their captain got out while attempting a reverse sweep.

Indian batsmen literally ran through the Lankan bowlers on a comparatively flat track. Murali Vijay (128), Cheteshwar Pujara (143), Rohit Sharma (102*) and Virat Kohli (213) put India on the route of a huge win and scored 610/6d. Dilruwan Perera took 3 wickets for 202 runs.

Only Ajinkya Rahane and KL Rahul failed to capitalize on the conditions as they only managed 7 and 2 respectively. Ishant Sharma deserves a special mention for picking up wickets at crucial positions of the match.

In the second innings after facing a big lead. Ishant removed Samarawickrama for a duck and then it was all wickets. Chandimal scored 61, before falling on a dull delivery by Umesh Yadav and Thirimanne tried his best for 23.

R Ashwin took 4/63, with 8 wickets in the match and completed his 300 wickets in his 54 Tests and became the fastest to achieve the milestone. India won the match by an innings and 239 runs, registering their biggest win by an innings margin.

The third and teh finl Test of the series will be played at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.

Match Summary: Sri Lanka: 205 & 166 (D Chandimal 61; R ashwin 4/63) defeated by India 610/6d (V Kohli 213, C Pujara 143) by an innings and 239 runs.
