English batter Harry Brook continues to capture global attention with his extraordinary form in the ongoing three-match Test series against New Zealand. The young cricketer has amassed a staggering 349 runs in just three innings, showcasing his ability to dominate the Kiwis on their home turf. Brook’s remarkable performances have drawn praise from cricketing legends, with former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting hailing him as possibly the best Test batter in the world right now.
“He probably is (the best Test batter in the world) right now. He is doing some pretty amazing things, most of them away from home. That’s his seventh hundred away from home out of eight or nine hundreds. It’s the way he scores his runs—with class and at a rapid pace under this new regime—that’s truly remarkable. I love watching him play,” Ricky Ponting shared during the latest episode of the ICC Review.

Ricky Ponting, who served as the head coach of Delhi Capitals until the conclusion of IPL 2023, reflected on why he saw Brook as a standout talent during the IPL auction.
“I got him in the IPL auction last year because I think he’s a generational player. He’s now proving that at the Test level and I believe he has the potential to excel across all three formats of the game,” Ricky Ponting stated.
Brook, who was acquired for INR 6.25 crore ahead of the 2023 IPL season, opted out of the tournament due to a personal loss. His decision to prioritize family during the challenging time following his grandmother’s passing earned widespread respect.
