Former Australian captain, Ricky Ponting war arguably one of the best batsmen of his time was a brilliant batsman and the records speak for him. In his illustrious career of 168 Tests, 375 ODIs and 17 T20Is, he went on to score as many as 27,000 runs with the help of 71 tons and 144 fifties. But Ponting too went through a tough phase when runs dried up. Certain bowlers also troubled him when he was out of form.

Recalling one of those moments on Friday, Ricky Ponting took to Twitter to term Andrew Flintoff getting over to him in the 2005 Edgbaston Ashes Test in the second innings as one of the best ever of his career. Flintoff had troubled him a lot in the four balls before with the incoming and away going deliveries.

Unaware of what to do, Ponting eventually was dismissed on the final delivery of the over edging one behind to the wicket-keeper Gerant Jones. Tweeting about the same, he wrote: “Best over I ever faced. Class reverse swing at 90odd mph!”

However, this tweet left the Indian fans disappointed. It wasn’t only Andrew Flintoff who troubled Ponting during his career. The young and lanky pacer Ishant Sharma almost made him his bunny. During India’s tour to Australian 2007-08, Ishant had troubled Ricky Ponting as the lanky pace bowler was getting the extra bounce on already bouncy WACA surface and was all over Ponting in the third Test of the four-match series.

Ishant didn’t just trouble the skipper but also got him out in both the innings of the game which India won handsomely to make a comeback in the series. On both the occasions, Ponting had failed to read his variations and got out giving a catch to the slip fielder Rahul Dravid. It was regarded as one of the best battles of the series which Ishant Sharma had won hands down.

And when Ricky Ponting’s tweet surfaced on Friday, the Indian fans reminded him of the torrid time the batsman had against India’s now most experienced bowler. Here are some of the reactions:
