Ricky Ponting, speaking on ICC Review, expressed optimism about Pant’s comeback, indicating that if the wicketkeeper-batsman is fit, he could resume the captaincy role for the upcoming tournament. However, Ponting acknowledged the need to make a significant decision based on Pant’s fitness status.

“It’s a big decision we’ll have to make because if he is fit, you’d think he’d step straight back into that captaincy role,” Ricky Ponting remarked. “If he’s not entirely fit and we have to use him in a slightly different role, then we’ve got some decisions to make there.”
