Punjab Kings continued their dominant run in IPL 2026 with a commanding 54-run win over Lucknow Super Giants at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium on April 19. However, despite the convincing result, head coach Ricky Ponting was far from pleased, especially with the fielding standards displayed during the game.

PBKS strengthened their position at the top of the points table, but the spotlight shifted to Shashank Singh, whose fielding lapses did not go unnoticed. The all-rounder endured a tough outing, dropping multiple chances and misjudging crucial moments in the field. His struggles began when he failed to hold on to a skier off Nicholas Pooran, only managing a slight touch as the ball fell safely.

The errors continued in the 18th over when he misread a shot from Aiden Markram, allowing it to sail over him for a six, leaving Ponting visibly stunned in the dugout.

The frustration peaked in the penultimate over when Shashank dropped Mukul Choudhary despite getting both hands to the ball. While captain Shreyas Iyer reacted with a smile, Ponting’s stern expression highlighted the seriousness of the repeated lapses.

However, the mood shifted after the match as PBKS celebrated another emphatic win. Ponting was seen sharing a warm embrace with Shashank, reflecting the team’s unity and support system.

Despite his struggles in the field, Shashank made a valuable contribution with the bat, smashing 17 off just six balls, including a boundary and a six, helping PBKS post a massive 254/7. The bowlers then restricted LSG to 200/5, sealing a comprehensive victory. Punjab Kings remain unbeaten with five wins and a no-result, sitting comfortably at the top, though fielding remains an area to address moving forward.
