The left-handed batter attended his father’s funeral in Aligarh shortly after India played their Super 8 clash against Zimbabwe national cricket team in Chennai on February 26. Soon after performing the final rites, he travelled to Kolkata to rejoin the India national cricket team squad ahead of their crucial match against the West Indies national cricket team at the iconic Eden Gardens.

A couple of days after India defeated the New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium to lift the T20 World Cup trophy, Rinku opened up about the emotional journey he experienced during the tournament. In his touching Instagram message, he revealed that stepping onto the field during such a difficult time was his way of honouring his father’s dream.

“Aapse baat kiye bina itne din kabhi nahi nikale. Mujhe nahi pata aage ki zindagi aapke bina kaise chalegi… par mujhe har kadam par aapki zaroorat padegi. Aapne sikhaya tha ki farz sabse aage hai… toh field par bas aapka sapna poora karne ki koshish kar raha tha. Ab aapka sapna pura ho gaya hai… toh bas yahi lagta hai ki kash aap mere paas hote.”

“Har chhoti badi khushi mein aapki kami khalegi. Bohot miss karunga aapko Papa… bohot zyada,” Rinku wrote in the caption.

From a cricketing perspective, Rinku featured in the first five matches of the tournament against the United States national cricket team, Namibia national cricket team, Pakistan, the Netherlands national cricket team and South Africa national cricket team, but managed only modest scores.
