India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru from Monday, following a fractured right foot sustained during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in July. According to an IANS report, Pant’s check-in at the CoE was finalized at the last minute.

Encouragingly, the cast on his right foot has now been removed, and he is walking without any visible signs of discomfort. This development has given Indian fans hope ahead of the home Test series against the West Indies in October.
After returning from the UK, Pant sought advice from leading medical experts, including renowned surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who has closely monitored his recovery. Dr. Pardiwala, who successfully operated on Pant’s knee following his horrific car accident in December 2022, was again consulted for the foot injury.

The injury occurred on the opening day of the Manchester Test when Pant inside-edged a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes onto his foot. Despite retiring hurt on 37, scans later revealed a fracture to his fifth metatarsal. Displaying remarkable resilience, the southpaw returned the next day, batting in visible pain and contributing a crucial 54 runs for India.

With Pant sidelined, Dhruv Jurel handled wicketkeeping duties in the match, while N Jagadeesan was flown in for the fifth Test at The Oval. Though Jagadeesan joined the squad, it was Jurel who eventually retained the gloves as India secured a thrilling six-run win to level the series 2-2.
As per IANS, the CoE’s medical team will assess Pant’s foot on Tuesday, after which his rehabilitation plan will be charted. The evaluation will also indicate whether Pant can recover in time for the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies, scheduled in Ahmedabad (October 2-6) and New Delhi (October 10-14).

Pant, India’s Test vice-captain, was in outstanding form against England, amassing 479 runs in seven innings at an average of 68.42, including two centuries at Headingley. His availability will be crucial for India, but if he fails to regain fitness, Jurel and Jagadeesan remain strong contenders to fill the wicketkeeper-batter role.
