On Day 2 of the ongoing third and final Test between India and South Africa at the Newlands in Cape Town 11 wickets fell on the that witnessed Keegan Petersen emulate what the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli did on Day 1, although in a failed attempt to take South Africa past India’s first-innings total. However, on Day 3, the young wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant came out all guns blazing as he smashed a cover drove coming down the track to Duanne Olivier.

A valiant knock of 72 runs off 166 helped South Africa was looking good to nullify the lead, but Mohammed Shami’s double whammy in the second session and Jasprit Bumrah’s seventh five-wicket haul denied Petersen any help from the other end as South Africa eventually got bundled out for a meager score of folded for 210 runs, 13 short of equalling India’s total.

In the second innings, India had lost both their openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal to Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada respectively, however, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara steadied India’s ship. At the end of Day 2, India was at 57/2 with a lead of 70 runs.

Kohli and Pujara managed to resume India’s batting on Day 3 with the aim to add to their existing lead of 70 runs. However, Pujara failed to contribute much to the score as he was dismissed by a snorter from Marco Jansen. However, a lot of credit for Cheteshwar Pujara’s dismissal goes to Keegan Petersen, who pulled off an absolute screamer in the first over of Day 3.

Ajinkya Rahane came out to bat after that, but he also failed to do much as Rabada dismissed him with another gem. Then, Rishabh Pant came out to bat and managed to instill some calmness in the Indian dressing room by building a partnership. However, on the first ball of the 34th over, Pant came down the track to smash a blistering cover drive off Duanne Olivier.
