The prodigious comeback of Rishabh Pant in international cricket has been nothing less than an inspiration to cricket fans all over the world. Pant, after fighting the destruction caused by a car accident in December 2022, which brought him out of the games for over a year, became a successful player with the T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2024.
While the cricket world is celebrating his return, Pant, however, is in an unpredicted social media skirmish that has attracted a lot of attention. On the Indian crowdfunding platform Ketto, a user with the “Rishabh Pant” name donated a sum of 90,000 INR to a campaign by Kartikey Maurya who was collecting funds for his engineering studies at Chandigarh University.

Although the gesture was initially met with praise, soon enough, suspicions emerged about the citizenship of the benefactor. The likes of CricketNext have failed to confirm whether the Indian wicketkeeper-batter himself added money.
The scenario turned to be weirder when the main social media post that highlighted the financial aid was taken down, and the account that had posted it was deactivated without explanation. This stirred further speculations, with some users blaming Rishabh Pant for maybe supporting a bogus case.

One user even uploaded an unconfirmed picture of a text message where the recipient of the money had said that he lost 90,000 INR in a bet and was now asking for help from people on social media. At the same time, constant rumor-mongering continues to dissipate any form of altruism which shall remain the least goal.

Amidst this hot debate, Rishabh Pant probably is dealing with his cricket-related plans. With India’s possible call-up on the horizon in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, Pant could get a chance to re-enter the red-ball cricket competition after nearly a two-year-long break. His last Test match was also against Bangladesh, in 2022, so the series will be a befitting platform for his red-ball return.
Rishabh Pant’s miraculous transition from injury to international stardom has been truly astonishing, and his possible selection to the Test squad will be another milestone. India will turn to Pant’s sharp batting and solid catching as they get ready for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia at the end of this year. On the cricket world stage, Pant’s following moves will carry much weight in his plan to boost back his career and thus build a more solid ground in his country’s cricketing.
