India’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has surged to sixth place in the latest ICC Test Batting Rankings, marking another milestone in his remarkable return to top-flight cricket. In the latest update released on Wednesday, Pant gained one spot to reach a career-best 801 rating points, closing in on the top-ranked Joe Root, who leads by just 88 points.

Pant’s promotion comes on the back of his exceptional twin centuries—134 and 118—against England in the first Test at Headingley. Although India lost the match by five wickets, Pant’s explosive shot-making and fearless approach captured global attention and earned him widespread acclaim. This latest ranking puts him just one position behind the career-high fifth spot he briefly held in 2022.
Root, with scores of 28 and an unbeaten 53, retained his place at the top, narrowly edging out teammate Harry Brook, who remains second with a 15-point gap. England opener Ben Duckett’s match-winning 149 saw him leap to a personal best eighth position.
