India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant provided a promising update on his fitness status on September 4th, signaling his determined journey to recovery. Pant, who had been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, was seen engaging in intensive training sessions, marking significant progress despite the severity of his previous injury.
The young and exceptionally talented cricketer had encountered a life-threatening car accident on December 30, 2022, while en route to his hometown of Roorkee in Uttarakhand. Rishabh Pant had been driving alone when he unfortunately dozed off at the wheel, resulting in a harrowing collision of his Mercedes with a road divider on the highway. The impact was so intense that the car overturned and caught fire, creating a life-threatening situation.

Amidst the chaos and danger, Rishabh Pant displayed quick thinking and managed to break the windscreen to escape the engulfing flames. The accident occurred in the early hours at around 5:30 am. Fortunately, Pant was discovered by local residents and a vigilant bus driver named Sushil Kumar, who promptly summoned an ambulance. Pant was initially admitted to a hospital in Roorkee and later transferred to Max Hospital in Dehradun to receive further medical attention.

The accident left Rishabh Pant with multiple injuries, including two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, and abrasions on his back. Additionally, he suffered injuries to his right wrist, ankle, and toe. Despite the gravity of the situation, Pant remained in stable condition, conscious, and able to communicate with medical professionals.
In the aftermath of the accident, Pant underwent plastic surgery to address injuries to his left eyebrow and demonstrated positive responses to the treatment. However, the extent of his injuries meant that he would likely miss the upcoming 4-Test series against Australia, scheduled to commence on February 9, 2023. His road to recovery included engaging in water therapy sessions as part of his rehabilitation process.
